  • Mystery Missions - my beta experience

MysteryGoogle seems to be trying to lose the Google name and shift to something that is completely their own.  They launched their beta today, and I signed up for it to see just how everything seems to work.

A few things have changed since they started this new mystery missions site.  First, you no longer have to enter in your own mission if you want to find missions.  You simply go to the page, log in, and hit “request mission” (or “submit mission” if you’re feeling brave). From there it will display a mission from an agent before you and you can click “accept” or “pass” to display a new mission.  So far accept doesn’t work for me, it logs me out.  From what I can tell this is a wide issue and I’m not the only one.  So for now, I can click pass and look at different missions. With this bug seems to come another bug, though.  Since missions can’t be accepted, the majority of the missions tend to keep going.  This may or may not be a desirable thing for you, but for most I would have to say that this is a flaw.

The next thing that’s changed is the fact that you can view and, soon, manage your profile.  I’m not sure what their plans are for the future for this feature, but maybe they’ll have public profiles where you can choose to display your agent number, phone number, and email.

My ruling: Sign up now, but don’t give out your phone number when filling out the mission submitting form if you don’t have unlimited texting.  Your mission has potential to be floating around for a while from what I’ve experienced.  Hopefully they’ll be able to fix that relatively soon, but in the mean time: feel free to take on the missions assigned to you by other mystery agents :)

I love this whole album. Not sure where to find it still, though, since the artist posted it on piratebay.  Not sure if anyone still uses that site since the court case so there aren’t any seeds on the torrent.  I’ll work on getting it posted somewhere else if anyone wants it.

MysteryGoogle recently decided to come up with a way to deal with the spammers on their site.  Since people were using this awesome service to create prank calls to people, and an equal amount of other people were using it for adult-themed missions, they had to yank phone numbers to keep them from showing up in missions.  There haven’t been many details released yet, other than it’s launching tomorrow afternoon.  All I know is that you have to sign up and enter your phone number to allow phone numbers to be shown again.  Not sure how they’re going to solve all of the spamming problems, or how it’s even going to work.

As you can see above from the Gmail inbox, Google has allowed you to write a custom message to put in a holiday post card to send to your friends and family :) Unfortunately, they only allow you to create and send one. Who has received mine? Only time will tell.

    You make the darkness disappear,
I feel found when you stand near.
I know where I am when you are here,
    My way becomes so clear.

I know it’s not what I usually post. I heard it somewhere and it was stuck in my head for days.
